Revival: Spring '23 Fashion Trends

"Revival," a reimagining of classic silhouettes for all the Pinterest girls to embody this spring season.

History is always repeated. Spring fashion gained popularity in the 19th century, where it developed its own unique identity. With the entry of Coco Chanel, Charles Worth, and Elsa Schiaparelli, fashion emerged as a new ‘era,’ implying femininity, modernity, and simplicity. It was an ode to the peace ushered in after the war.

From the return of Balletcore and all forms of 00s grunge to the reimagining of classic silhouettes and fabrics, the fashion industry is experiencing a revival of the iconic styles that defined the century. Loose has scoured the fashion world for the best spring '23 to bring you some comfort during this transition and hopefully salvage and repurpose those already staple pieces!

Pastel highlights

A modern classic, a light pair of pastels — pink, blue, or lavender — can add a touch of whimsy to any outfit, and are perfect for those who want to experiment with colour without going too bold. Pastel highlights can be incorporated into any style, from edgy to feminine, and can be applied to hair, makeup, or clothing. This trend is perfect for those who want to add a playful touch to their look while staying on-trend. As simple as they may be, the right pastel look with a tailored fit can completely transform your look.

The world's most abundant fabric: denim

Every year, denim takes on a different aura. Stick to baggy, 70's-style jeans this year to channel your inner Daisy Jones. Take up a 90's wide-leg pant (distressed, if you're into the spice) and emulate Heidi Klum's denim-on-denim look. A long denim skirt is the way to go for an even more put-together look!

Sheer as day

One thing is certain: celebrity stylists have committed to sheer fabric and broken out of its costuming category, whether it's a see-through mesh or a more modest pairing. Pairing a bold coloured pant with a sheer blouse and statement jewellery can elevate it, making it perfect for a night out or special occasion.

A romantic dream

The spring staples — a maxi skirt, preferably floor length, floral patterns, and the lacey romanticism of the "boho" aesthetic — are all being tackled by designers like Acne Studios, creating a dreamy and ethereal vibe that is perfect for the spring season. Ruffles, miniskirts with tulle, lace, and a cloud of coquette all have their stamp of approval from Dior. Don't be afraid to add an edgy look with darker colours, or even incorporate these with Boho-approved patterns like paisley and floral prints. (Yes, Miranda Priestley — it isn't a spring trends post without 'florals for spring'.)

Structure

This year, designers are going for that oversized blazer that is tailored to perfection. To add to your "model-off-duty" look, use some structure that defines the curves. Pair it with a small sculptural bag or a large oversized one with some white canvas shoes, or, if you want to go the dressier route, a platform sandal and you'll be looking at more Victoria Beckham moments.

From pastel colours to bold prints, the fashion industry is pushing boundaries and encouraging individuals to express themselves through their clothing choices. Whether you prefer classic silhouettes or timeless pieces, there is something for everyone in this season's lineup.
